Perseverance, Tribulation and Memorization

This is a page from my “meditation journal”.  It is not the whole entry, but figured I would post some of it:

“I believe, for this reason (Acts 14:21-22) and many others, our hearts and minds must be filled with the word of God.  We need daily bible intake, but we need it to stay with us throughout the day.  Many who read the word take no time at all to digest it, as though this were a spiritual eating disorder.  Having read, many simply close their Bibles and walk away.  There is no prayer, no memorization, no meditation upon what was read.  No digestion. All they have taken in they have just as easily vomited up and are left with nothing but a foul taste in their mouth when issues arise throughout the day…

“Many believers, true believers, live lives of powerlessness and discontent for such a reason.  They have been told or simply assume that the word’s power comes simply from brief reading and a five minute prayer disconnected from the word just read.  This is why so many people, I believe, get caught up in a Todd Bentley or other obviously unbiblical manifestations of spirits and not THE SPIRIT.  They know deep down that there is more to this Christian walk, this following of Christ, but, as they have not been correctly taught, they follow after what the believe and hope to be a “new move of God”, because the old methods of God’s moving, namely Scripture intake and prayer, do  not seem to be working for them…”

Were the Jews Black?

Interesting question I must admit, and while this does not have anything to do per se with memorization or meditation, I feel that this blog would be a good place to discuss this.  Here is some back story for you:

Last Sunday, which would have been 6th of July, two younger brothers in the faith (who may have not been of the faith) came into the Sunday School class I attend at Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church here in Saint Louis.  They were trying to teach us, after Sunday School let out, the original Jews were black.  Why did they say this you might ask?

They tied several verses together, and, asking several questions, they put together that the Exodus found in the early history of the Jews was not deliverance from 400 years of slavery.  How did they arrive at this?  God promises Abraham in Genesis 15:12-16 that his offspring would be enslaved in a foreign land for 400 years.  The problem, at least for these two young men, was that Moses never records the Exodus in the Bible as being 400 years long.  Therefore, this must be a later time, like the American Slave Trade.  I can fill in more details if you press me.  This is the basis of their argument.  I figured out.

The problem with this is that in the New Testament both Stephen and Paul in Acts refer to the Exodus being 400 years and the Exodus plus the conquest being 450 years.  Their argument is just one of the many examples of Biblical Illiteracy running throughout our nation today.

INTRODUCTION

Dwelling Rich Ministries is dedicated to exhorting and encouraging the believer in the Lord Jesus Christ to partake in the disciplines of Memorization of Scripture and Meditation upon Scripture.  You can visit our home site at www.dwelling-rich.org.

About Dwelling Rich

At Dwelling Rich we see Memorization and Meditation as key components of the work of God in the believer of the Lord Jesus.  Memorization acts as placing the word of God within us, while Meditation allows the believer to “chew” on the word of God throughout the days, weeks, months and years of following our Savior.  If the word of God is truly the center-piece of the Holy Spirit’s arsenal in killing our deceitful desires, then these two disciplines are indeed key.

Please join us as we seek to show forth the power of the word of God in the lives of believers through these two disciplines.
